About Our Logo

On our logo you will see the “Fish” design and  the “Cross.”  These are Christian symbols that have an interesting history.  About forty years after Jesus Christ died, was resurrected, and ascended into Heaven, the followers of Christ - then called Christians - were persecuted by the Romans.  It became very dangerous for them to walk about and talk openly about their faith.  As two people would meet on the walking path, one would draw in the sand a half moon shape.  If the other individual was a Christian, he would recognize this and draw the opposite side of the shape - thus forming the shape of a fish.  They then knew that they could talk freely about their faith.  If the other person was not a Christian, he would not understand the shape and would simply ignore it.  Jesus Christ in His earthly ministry called many men to be His followers.  They were to be fishers of men.  From that time on, the symbol of the fish represents the very purpose for which we live:  to draw mankind to Christ - to fish for men.
